I am originally from Hoorn (born in 1968) and, after living in Amsterdam, I now live and work from my studio in Muiden. I am a passionate realistic-impressionist painter. I have been drawing and painting since childhood. Since 2017, I have been doing this professionally with great passion.
I love the loose touch. A single brushstroke can convey it. So I also work a lot wet-on-wet. That means making choices and thinking carefully about where to place the brushstroke (or rather, not thinking, but feeling). Up close, you can see the brushstrokes, but from a distance, my painting comes to life.
I am inspired by painters such as Joaquín Sorolla, William Turner, John Singer Sargent, Albert Marquet, but also by Dutch predecessors such as Isaac Israël, Breitner, Albert Cuijp and, of course, Van Gogh. I follow modern painters via Instagram and YouTube.
Construction and infrastructure
In my work, I am also inspired by the great and powerful architectural works of mankind.
As an engineer, I test and integrate these energystations, flood defences, locks, tunnels and bridges myself, so I am familiar with the challenges of these projects and the craftsmanship and perseverance of all the men and women who design, build, maintain and operate them.
My paintings give them and their magnificent works a platform. I also strive for craftsmanship in my work.
My infrastructure and construction paintings have been purchased by (construction) companies such as BAM, Heijmans, Volkerwessels, Griffid, The Collective and Dura Vermeer. My work is exhibited in meeting rooms and reception areas and inspires the employees of these companies. Contractors also give my work as a unique decoration for a (control) building as a completion gift to clients.
In 2022, my oil painting Zeesluis IJmuiden (IJmuiden Sea Lock) was presented to Rijkswaterstaat by builder OpenIJ during the opening of the IJmuiden Sea Lock.
That same year, my painting Tram Nieuwegein was presented to the deputy of the Province of Utrecht.
My landscapes and cityscapes find their way to private collectors. My works are now on display in the Netherlands, France and Italy. I do portrait work on commission or as free work.
Commissioned work
I sell my work through exhibitions and fairs, and I also do commissioned work.
